I have a spot of mold above where my bathroom fan vents into the attic. The spot is on the bottom of the roof sheathing plywood. The spot in question is about 6" across, and there are a few other smaller spots near that area.

The basement is the most unfinished area in the house. It has very little heat, and tends to have a lot of junk. Conditions can be made damp by the water from a leaky pipe. All these come together to create perfect conditions for mold spores to take root and grow unfettered. Another factor that contributes to the growth of mold in basements is the lack of natural ventilation. Stale air full of contaminants and moisture continues to circulate inside the basement making it prone to mold.
Mold in the basement can not only harbor allergy causing germs, but can also spread these spores to the rest of the house through the vents and ducts that are inside your basement. Once inside the main house, these spores are distributed freely though the HVAC systems causing asthma and other respiratory disorders. To keep your basement safe from mold, make sure that the ventilation system is functioning efficiently. Your ceiling fan and a/cs should be circulating the air inside the basement. If there is a leaky pipe, get it fixed immediately. If your basement has a tendency to get flooded during rains, get this problem fixed immediately. If there are wet patches on carpets, dispose of these. Do the same with damp furniture -- either get them dry appropriately, or get rid of them altogether. If you have a bathroom in your basement, make sure that all faucets are shut tight to avoid a dripping situation all night long.
Basement mold removal is extremely important because these spores are easily able to infiltrate the air in the rest of the house. If you have mold infestation in your basement, don't attempt to scrub these. You'll only dislodge the spores making it easier for them to make their way through vents and ducts to the rest of the house. Contact a basement mold removal company.
